Who wants a few extra days out of their oboe reeds?
This video describes in detail how to adjust the aperture of your oboe reed and reopen the tip so that you can extend the life of your oboe reed for a few extra days. For more information on our programs including Reed Making Classes, please visit our website at www.TheOboeAcademy.com

Try adjusting your oboe to a 45 Degree angle while you play. We often notice that students play with their oboes too close to their body which can cause the air flow to bend thus not producing a full sound, causing the oboist to not get optimal air support, and it can distort the embouchure. Move the bell of your oboe away from your body until you are at approximately a 45-degree angle between your torso and oboe. See the difference!

Today's tip is to take difficult passages and movements fo oboe music and play them on other instruments to gain insight. I often play difficult oboe passages on flute and piano to help me identify phrasing, dynamic ideas, tone color ideas, tuning, and flow. Sometimes a passage is easier to play and thus deconstruct on another instrument. Give it a try!

Dear Parents and Students:
Welcome to the new online portal for The Oboe Academy, formerly known as the studio of Dr. Nate Burgos!
This site will be a central place for students and parents to communicate, take lessons via Zoom, manage scheduling, and manage billing. There are also sections for me to scan and assign book materials and solos. Finally, there is a practice log in the new site which I will explain during each Student's lesson. I will be sending all parents an initial invoice through the new system. If you notice any irregularities, please send me an email and I will be happy to correct it. Going forward, I have set up each student in the calendar with weekly reoccurring lessons. We will keep track of attendance on this site. Invoices will be automatically generated on the 1st day of each month for the prior month's lessons. Your first invoice will include all lessons taught prior to January 1, 2021. Payments method for lessons include PayPal (auto-linked in invoice), Venmo, Cash App, and Zelle. If you do not wish to use the Payment Button and process your payment via PayPal then please email me and I will provide you with the username for the proper payment method.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email or text me.
Best regards,
Nate Burgos, PhD
